I am very excited to announce that I have been nominated to compete for Student Visionary of the Year (SVOY) through The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Each year students engage in a seven-week leadership development program to earn The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Student Visionary of the Year” title. LLS is one of the largest non-profits dedicated to creating a world without blood cancer. LLS has invested more than $1.5 billion in cancer research since 1949, leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics, and personalized medicine that are improving and saving patients’ lives. One of them being my older brother Fredy Lemus.

On October 24th, 2018 my older brother Fredy Lemus was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and was treated at Kaiser Permanente. Throughout his experience, I have seen firsthand how truly hard the battle against cancer is. As a father of two, it was extremely difficult for him to adjust to the new lifestyle treatment put him in. He could no longer play with his kids as he used to and was not even able to enjoy some of his favorite foods. Four years later I am grateful to acknowledge the fact that he is no longer in treatment. Fredy is one of the strongest people I know. My campaign will provide support to the critical work of LLS in hopes that one day no one will have to grow up without the ones they love.

For the past decades, the funds raised through LLS have helped the survival rates of many blood cancers double, triple, and even quadruple. Forty percent of all new FDA-approved cancer therapies have been developed to help cure blood cancer. All these new approaches could not have been possible without being funded through LLS. These groundbreaking research discoveries are funded by generous people like you. On January 19th, 2023. 

"Blasting Cancer" will launch our seven-week campaign to raise money and awareness for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Our goal is big but we believe with your help we can reach it. Our goal is $10,000!
